Key Club Information

Do you make keys?

No. The KEY in Key Club is an acronym for Kiwanis Educating Youth.
What is Key Club?

The Alameda High School Key Club is a community service club. We are one of over 5,000 Key Clubs operating in 24 countries with a quarter million members in all. Key Club International is one of the largest and oldest service programs for high school students. It is unique in that it is entirely student-led from top to bottom, with all bylaws and projects created by high schoolers themselves. Key Club is also a member of the Kiwanis Family of clubs consisting of K-Kids (elementary school), Builders Club (middle school), Circle K (college), Kiwanis (adults) and Aktion (disabled).

What types of service events do you do?

Each individual club has the autonomy to select and plan its own service events. However, each district introduces a new district project each year, with four days out of the year dedicated to that cause. In addition, all Key Clubs worldwide are united under our Major Emphasis Program, Children: Their Future Our Focus. This program consists of two components, Service Partners and Service Initiative. Service Partners focuses on a specific organization during each season of the year, known as Key Club's Seasons of Service. Key Club has been approved as official partners with UNICEF (Fall), March of Dimes (Spring) and Children's Miracle Network (Summer). Service Initiative invites members to serve children in an educational hands-on approach, with the theme changing every two years to meet current needs of children.

What do I have to do to join?

If you are currently attending Alameda High School, come to one of our meetings during Monday lunches in the media center pit.

Why should I join Key Club?

Key Club is a great way to get our high school community service requirements fulfilled. Our club also provides the opportunity for members to work alongside others to help further our school and our community. It's a chance to become part of a worldwide organization of not just Key Club, but the entire Kiwanis family, and establish relations that will go beyond high school (perhaps to Circle K and Kiwanis!).

What do I get for joining Key Club?

Key Club members have their community service hours recorded and turned in for them and are notified of new community service opportunities including during the summer. Many events are exclusive for Key Club only and are not available to the general public. Members are covered by a limited amount of insurance while at Key Club events. They can obtain leadership experience by running for office at the club, division, district or even international levels. Seniors have the opportunity to apply for scholarships. You will also get a membership card and pin if you turn in your dues before December 1st of the school year.
